Studio Policies (Piano)

Lesson Schedule

Lessons run from the first full week in September after the Labour Day long weekend to June. The studio follows school breaks at Christmas and March Break.

Recitals & Performance Opportunities

The studio has two recitals, one before Christmas Break and the other at the end of the teaching year (typically in early June). Students will have the opportunity to perform their chosen pieces for friends and family, as well as participate in hand bell and/or rhythm ensembles with their peers.

Missed/Cancelled Lessons

Please note that missed lessons will only be rescheduled in the event that the teacher will be out of town for a conference, etc., and need to cancel, or in the case of inclement weather. If you are unable to attend your regularly scheduled lesson, we recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to explore potential alternatives so that your child will not have to miss a lesson.

Alternatives include:

-Skype lesson

-Switch lesson times with another student for the week

-Receive feedback on recordings of the student playing his/her pieces

Kindly note that the above options do not constitute a "missed lesson" and, as such, regular lesson payment will be due.

Practicing and Practice Incentives

Students are encouraged to practice at least five days per week so that they are well-prepared for their lessons and able to move along to new, cool pieces and concepts each week. Every piece or assignment on the weekly homework sheet should be practiced at least three times per practice session unless otherwise indicated.

Parents of students under the age of seven should aim to sit with and help their child(ren) during all practice sessions at home. Parents of students between ages eight and ten should aim to listen and assist as necessary with practice at least once a week.

Practice Incentives - Students will receive  one piece of "mage magic" for each week in which they practice five or more times. After they accumulate six "mage magic" tokens, they will be able to choose a prize from the studio's treasure chest!
